Ackerman is a town in Choctaw County, Mississippi, United States. It is the county seat of Choctaw County.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 accessdate=2011-06-07 )〕 It is named for an early landowner. ==Geography and climate== Ackerman is located southeast of the center of Choctaw County at (33.311400, −89.174745). Mississippi Highway 15 passes through the town, leading north to Mathiston and south to Louisville. Mississippi Highway 2 passes through the northwest corner of the town, leading northeast to Starkville and southwest to Kosciusko. Mississippi Highway 9 heads north from Highway 12 in the northwest corner of Ackerman, leading to Eupora. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.85%, is water.〔 The town is located near the headwaters of the Yockanookany River, a tributary of the Pearl River.
